Opening An Account?


You are eligible to become a member of Buncrana Credit Union if you work or live within our common bond. Our common bond includes the whole of the Inishowen Peninsula. You may also qualify if you have a family member who is already a member of Buncrana Credit Union.


To open an account in Buncrana Credit Union you will be asked to provide the following original documents:

Single Account

  1. Current photo ID (one of the following documents): Photo Passport, Driving Licence, National Identity Card, Public Services Card, Form ML10.

  2. Proof of address (one of the following documents which must be dated within the last six months): Revenue Commissioners/Department of Protection letter, local authority document, bank, building society or credit card statement, utility bill, household or motor insurance certificate

  3. Proof of PPS number: this appears on many items including Revenue correspondence, payslips, Public Service Card etc.

  4. For those living outside the common bond but working within it, proof of employment is required (a letter from your employer or payslip dated within last three months).Joint Account

Junior Account

  1. A junior account is for any member under 16 years of age.

  2. An account may be opened for a child by any adult, however, ID documents are required for the child’s parent/legal guardian as stated above for Single Accounts.

  3. The child’s birth certificate or passport, and proof of their PPS number, are also required.

Club/Society/Company Account

  1. Club/Society officials or Directors must live or work within our common bond.

  2. We require documentation as outlined above for Single Accounts for at least two of the elected officials of the club/society officials or directors. We also require documentation on the purpose of the club/society/company.

  3. Please speak to a member of staff for more information if you wish to open a club/society/company account.



Our Credit Union lets people in the community come together to save and borrow money at low rates, and is operated on a not-for-profit basis, with surpluses being used to strengthen the Credit Union and a portion being returned directly to members.
